Cape May County Zoo
It’s more than a county gem... it’s been named one of the best zoos in the world! Come see what all the fuss is about.
WHERE IS IT? Take Exit 11 on Garden State Parkway and follow the signs.
WHY SHOULD I GO? Cape May County Zoo has, for years, been something of a secret treasure, although its profile was raised after it was named at number 13 on the list of TripAdvisor’s best zoos in the world and number 5 in the nation! It’s also AZA and ZAA accredited — one of only 10 zoos in the United States with both. Now, more people than ever are realizing why this is one of the gems of the county. The park and zoo are a great place to spend a few hours to view more than 550 animals and the landscaped gardens and natural wooded areas.
And not only that... now you can also engage your inner Tarzan by taking part in the Tree to Tree Adventure Park. It’s an aerial course featuring zip lines, nets, swings and other fun obstacles for every age and ability. Depending on your preference, it could be a pretty decent workout or merely a fun day in the woods.
As for the zoo itself, visit the giraffes and lions in the African Savanna, play spot the snow leopard and feed a variety of farm animals. Then slither your way through the Reptile and Amphibian House or watch the Siamang Apes swing around their playground at Primate Point. Don't forget about the Zebras, Capybaras, Cheetahs and Bears... there's just so much to see!
Or how about a stroll in the park? Cameron Wildlife Sanctuary is a wonderful place that appeals to hikers, bikers, joggers and wildlife watchers. The park offers several habitats including woodlands, lakes and wetlands, crossed by easily walkable dirt and paved trails.
While the park and zoo are free, donations are greatly appreciated to help maintain this fabulous amenity.
