Jardin at the Hugh

Where Is It? Inside The Hugh Boutique Bed and Breakfast on Washington Street, next door to City Hall.

Why Should I Go? Jardin is a French eco-mindful restaurant that stewards the earth-forward approach using hyper-local ingredients. It sits inside the Hugh Bed and Breakfast, owned by John and Sandy Vizzone. The couple’s experience is rooted in the fashion world and their desire to open a B&B in a Victorian home came together to create a new kind of luxury in Cape May.

The Vizzones always dreamed of incorporating a gourmet restaurant into their bed and breakfast. When introduced to Michael Schultz, their philosophies aligned to create an eco-friendly restaurant with exquisite food and service. Jardin’s chic design reflects the boldness of the owners and the ultra-creative cuisine of Michael Schultz, a Cape May native who has been featured on The Food Network, Cooking Channel, Daily Meal, NY Times Magazine and many more national cooking platforms.

Inside the Hugh, choose their eight, boldly designed rooms, make yourself at home and begin to unwind. In each room, John and Sandy have married a hip, playful vibe with vintage Victorian — and that combination is a winner. Refurbished original pieces integrated with modern artwork fill the property for a visual treat at every turn. The Hugh is an ideal destination for newlyweds or friends traveling on vacation — it will be irrefutably cool and irresistibly fun at the same time.

Guests of the Hugh as well as the public are welcomed to Jardin for dinner. Be prepared for a 10-11 course culinary marathon that champions local organic farm-to-table ingredients with refined, but warm, hospitality. Jardin opened in 2021 and has received numerous awards and glowing reviews from the region’s top food critics. “Best restaurants for the summer,” Craig Laban, Philadelphia Inquirer; “A captivating dining experience, Cape May’s most interesting restaurant in years,” Adam Erace; “New Jersey’s best restaurants of 2021,” NJ Monthly; “New Jersey’s Best New Restaurants,” Healthy Living Magazine and “New Jersey’s Best New Restaurants,” NJ Monthly.

Insider Tip: Menu items change with the seasons and what can be sourced — there will always be something new to try. Local wines from Hawk Haven Winery are offered, or you can BYOB. Jardin is a 100% paper-free restaurant so you can reserve and pay for your experience online.
