Sunset Liquors
The Wild West vibe will make you smile... the fabulous selection will make you giddy
WHERE IS IT? Sunset Boulevard, near the corner of Broadway.
WHY SHOULD I GO? Sunset Liquors opened in 2012, becoming the first establishment in West Cape May’s history with a liquor license. But this is only one reason the store created such a buzz when it opened. The 3,000-square-foot building has a fun Wild West vibe. It’s sided with reclaimed cypress wood and decorated with wine barrels from local vineyards.
But unlike the Wild West, the building has a calming feel. This isn’t your typical discount warehouse liquor store — think Edison lightbulbs in homemade fixtures instead of harsh fluorescent lighting. The look is a combo of boutique and homey, which isn’t easy to pull off — but it works.
Contributing to this boutique feel is a selection of 150 craft beers. The wine selection consists of four lengthy wine shelves, including varietals from Argentina to the United States and many other places in between, prices ranging from $7.99 to $399.
Liquor more your thing? They’ve got everything from a $14.99 bottle of tequila to out-of-the-ordinary, next-level spirits, plus natural wines and the latest summer seltzers. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, let the friendly, knowledgeable crew know, and they’ll do their best to have it ordered.
INSIDER TIP The staff don’t just know wine — they know the local restaurants, too! Ask for BYOB recommendations.
