Boarding House
Experience an irresistible surf-chic vibe, plus all the amenities required for a perfect Cape May stay!
WHERE IS IT? On Lafayette, a five-minute walk from downtown Cape May.
WHY SHOULD I STAY THERE? The modern surf-chic vibe is just the right mixture of casual yet sophisticated. The 11 rooms are light and airy and feature white bedding, minimalist touches and pops of color on a neutral backdrop. On the walls you’ll find pieces by local artists David Macomber and Kathy Fallon, plus custom surfboards by Kona Surf Co. Handmade soap and candles from Shore Soaps and a custom coffee blend from Cape May Roasters complete a highly local, supremely satisfying experience.
While this ethos attracts surfers and active-lifestyle enthusiasts, it’s also a popular spot for those who prefer to chill out on the roof deck while enjoying a complimentary happy hour featuring local wine and beer. The Boarding House is a short walk from many acclaimed restaurants and a short bike to the beach. You can borrow one of their custom beach cruisers from Priority Bicycles, the perfect way to get around town.
The hotel is brought to you by the family who operated Montreal Beach Resort for seven decades. Expect the same (very high) level of service. You can also expect eco-friendly products and practices; vegan and sulfate/paraben free bath products, in-room coffee stations include refillable glass jars and pour-over coffee makers to reduce waste; and there’s LED lighting throughout.
The Boarding House has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability and design excellence, earning the NJ Clean Communities Business Partnership Award and the 2023 Environmental Leadership Award from the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, it was a finalist in Boutique Design’s 40th Annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design, Best Emerging Concept category and NJBIZ’s 2020 Business of the Year Awards, New Business of the Year.
INSIDER TIP The Boarding House is dog-friendly (and located across the street from the island’s dog park). Upon arrival, pups will receive a delicious, all-natural dog cookie. The dog-friendly King Suite is the most popular room, so interested guests should book early!
